Hey couldn't notice you deleted a fair bit of content on the Hamildrop pages I created. Not being funny but I spent a fair while digging up any information I could on these songs with the mindset that the only point of this website was to gather and immortalize the information on Hamilton content
The most I did was remove awkwardly worded/unnecessary sentences, a couple at most. The bulk of the information I edited was considered "trivia" (either not factual or verifiable, or "non-essential" to the main idea of the page), I simply moved it to the bottom section of the page under "Trivia".
That being said, maybe I forgot to move some of them. Can you link me to a revision where you feel I removed too much?
Also—I would like to point out pages such as Levi Weeks. Most of the content under "Relevant History" seems to be blatantly copied from the corresponding Wikipedia page.
Just to clarify, content such as this will be removed as it is plagiarizing the other source. Also, no one came here to get a word for word copy of Wikipedia, right? Otherwise they would have stuck with Wikipedia. :)
By no means am I saying don't use outside sources at all. The majority of the content we make should be original, and the information sourced from other places should be linked as a reference, NOT copied word for word.
Sorry I didn't mean to come across accusatory or direct
My only reasoning for the wikipedia copying was to filter out and only include information that had been relevant to Hamilton. Levi Weeks isn't a good example as the wikipedia page was so short there wasn't a lot to edit out
And yeah apologies, i see that some of the info had been moved to Trivia
I did try linking references for my first dozen pages but it came with a red footnote every time i did, i've since realised you have to add a reference list.
For references: it is a lot more straightforward if you use the Source editor—simply put the link between ref tags: <ref>[link]</ref>. They will automatically number themselves. Then, at the bottom of the page add a "References" heading and <references /> and they will display in numerical order.
I just want to add that you have added the most content to this wiki out of any editor I've seen. Know that I really appreciate all the work you've put in! I would never just remove info you've added :)
Hello! I was looking through all pages and noticed that the cast pages for the five separate productions are named two different ways. For Broadway, it is Production/Cast subpage and then for the others it is Production_Cast (I moved the Vassar E:Tour page to /Cast before realizing that the Broadway title wasn't the standard). What would you prefer to be the standard titling structure?
You're right, and Broadway_Production_Cast actually redirects to Broadway Production/Cast (it was a couple years ago so I'm not too sure what I was going for lol). Since the rest of the cast pages have a separate page to themselves, I'd prefer moving it to _Cast if that's okay with you.
I actually made the redirect. The original page was Broadway_Production_Cast. I think the you moved the _Cast to /Cast without a redirect, which deleted the original page. Since it was redlinked on other pages, someone came around and made the page again. So there were two pages at the same time, but the proper one was /Cast, which had the formal table, while the recreated page was just a bulleted list. When I noticed, I assumed the /Cast one was the proper one due to the looks and redirected the _Cast page to the /Cast page.
I'll go ahead and move back the Vassar Cast page and restore the old Broadway_Production_Cast page from the deletion logs and redirect the /Cast page.
Looking at it again, I think what happened was the original _Cast page only had the Original Broadway Cast, and then you moved it to /Cast to add the current members. Or maybe there was never a move and it was just deleted? Idk, it's kind of confusing.
Sorry, just to be a nag, if and when you do get round to this, could you change the draft to a capital "D"? It's already bookmarked as a redirect page to the first link and I'm a stickler for capitalization
Hey! Both of those pages have similar content, so I'm sure we could just add the extra information from I Have This Friend (draft) to I Have This Friend and then delete the draft page, if that works for you.
Hey that's 100% but i just want to be clear that "(Draft)" doesn't refer to a draft version of the page, it refers to a draft version of the song from Lin-Manuel Miranda's soundcloud album Hamildemos. If you look at the last 16 pages I have listed in my Bio you'll see what I mean.
I did do what you said above but then user tomuchcake took it upon themselves to seperate the pages and I don't have the power to undo that
I'm not sure i understand? There is no actual song
In March of this year Lin-Manuel Miranda released a never heard before draft of a song he was going to put in Hamilton. The two pages are exactly the same, my page just has more information and is more relevant to the rest of his pages that I made in relation to his Hamildemo album
I see you've put things back where they were, thanks so much, sorry about the hassle
Thanks for some of the touch-ups you did on the pages i created too! if there's anything else i can do on this wiki please let me know. I've still got a good few pages left to create, there's a hell of a lot more hamiton content out there than i realised
Just in terms of formatting, do you not think a SoundCloud or Spotify player just looks neater in the middle of the page as opposed to crammed in to the infobox? Total respect to the fact that thats just how its been done but i thought it just looked cleaner, especially when theres not that much content on the page
The infobox is largest element on the page so it's usually the piece people look at first -- so it has all the essential information about the page, such as the audio in its own section of the infobox labeled "Media".
Also, I believe some pages have more than one form of media, so all of those are organized in the infobox.
Looking back at the pages where the video/SoundCloud is just in the middle of the page, it just seems a little random. Like, the top section of text is understood to be an intro to the page, and placing the audio right after that seems a little out of place.
Hi there! I'm Kylara, and I'll be picking up as your Wiki Manager here at Hamilton Wiki.
I see that you and MakeShift were discussing some main page changes before, and I'd like to jump in on that. Perhaps remove the slider (user research shows they're not really helpful), and add some info and a trailer for the upcoming Disney+ release which will drop in about a week. Any thoughts?
How's everything been going around here?
[ETA] Any thoughts on this duplicate wiki? It looks abandoned so I'd like to get it closed/redirected. Let me know if there's any content there that you'd like to have imported.
Hey! Sorry for the late response, I just want to say the mainpage changes look great. I'm not quite sure what you mean about the "duplicate" wiki. hamilton.fandom.com redirects to hamiltonmusical.fandom.com
It was great! I've been recommending it and trying to get my family to watch, and I'll probably watch it again. I was surprised that it had so much in it, covering a lot of content/story with a lot of songs. The story felt really tight and the characters were really well developed, it was impressive!
I also think I prefer filmed stage productions, which might be a taboo position in musical theatre idk don't tell anyone. ;) But I really like that the cameras can get a closer and more varied look at the stage and performers than I can from a stationary seat in the audience. So I'm really happy they released a filmed version!
I know what you mean! The cinematography was absolutely amazing. The one reverse angle from the back of the stage had me on the edge of my seat! George Washington's entrance also stood out for me. Definitely wouldn't get the same views in a live performance :P
Not sure if you are aware of this, but on the 23rd May this year, C.Syde's Discord Server experienced two massive vandal attacks by two rogue moderators. More than 50 of the server's users, including yourself were kicked or banned from it. All the unauthorised bans have been undone, and the two moderators that participated in the vandalism have been banned. We are currently doing what we can to reach out to those users that were unfairly kicked/banned from it. So if you wish to rejoin the server, please do not hesitate to rejoin it! :)
Hey there Miststream, you might remember me from a few years back, I'm the admin of the Groundhog Day Wiki. In light of the recent news that the filmed OBC production of Hamilton will be releasing on Disney+ in July, I've also been assigned to the Hamilton Wiki as your Wiki Manager! I'm here to help you guys and act as a sort of "liaison" between you and full-time Fandom staff, and to generally help you make sure your wiki's in tip-top shape.
In anticipation for the pro-shot release, I'd love to rework the main page a bit if you'd be open to that, perhaps to be more inclusive of the multiple productions, as well as to highlight the upcoming pro-shot, as I'm sure we'll get a major uptick in views over the next few months.
Keen to hear back - feel free to buzz me if you have any issues! :)
I was thinking a bit of a more defined hub in regards to the specific productions, and perhaps outlining better the section that features the characters. Oh and it would certainly be an idea to promote the upcoming Disney+ release!
Yeah, like a section that's got a general assortment of links to the main things - I was thinking productions, characters, cast, and maybe songs? And in regards to the character section, I feel we can fit all of the characters in there - perhaps even a distinction between act 1 characters, act 2 characters, and those appearing throughout the show? I think it could definitely work with some careful design, which I'm happy to oblige!
I will say just on face value, unless Featured Article sections are updated regularly, they sort of lose relevance and serve as a bit of deadweight on the main page - so I'd totally love to replace it with details of the filmed production, if you were keen!
She is still continuing to cause the same issues as before despite being blocked twice. At this point, I believe it's probably best just to ban her. Also, I think her comments should be removed to avoid further argument in the future.
Hey Redandsymmetry, I've banned the first IP and Falsettos. The second anon didn't do anything too ban-worthy, but I've watch listed their contributions. I'm sorry I haven't been able to deal with the bad edits sooner. Thank you so much for reporting and reverting vandalism so quickly ! :D
