Theodosia Prevost/Burr (née Bartow) was the wife of Aaron Burr and the mother of Theodosia Burr Alston.
Biography[]
Theodosia was married to a British soldier named Jacques Marcus Prevost. While her husband was in Georgia, she engaged in an affair with Aaron Burr. Jacques died sometime around the end of the war. After her husband's death, she and Burr were married and had a daughter who shared her name. Theodosia had been ill, possibly from cancer, for the entirety of the time that she and Burr had known each other, and her condition worsened around 1792. On May 28th, 1794, she passed away.
Hamilton vs. History[]
In the song Dear Theodosia (Reprise), it is mentioned that Theodosia died during her daughter's adult years (even though she took ill in Schuyler Defeated). However in real life, she died when her daughter was ten years old.
