The Vassar Workshop Production, also known as The Hamilton Mixtape, was the earliest full presentation of Hamilton. The workshop was presented as a strictly two-performance reading on July 27th, 2013 as part of Vassar & New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater Program, an annual theater development program. Conducted by Alex Lacamoire and directed by Tommy Kail, the workshop presented the entirety of Act 1 as it existed and four songs from Act 2.
Among the audience members at the final performance was the future Aaron Burr actor Leslie Odom Jr.: Odom was at Powerhouse to see his wife Nicolette Robinson in another show and managed to snag tickets to the presentation. By his own admission, his interest in the show was the chance to see a new work from the creators behind In the Heights rather than scouting out what would eventually become one of his most known roles.
